SOGO SNACKS

DECORAH, IOWA

I’m Dan Bellrichard and welcome to Sogo Snacks; thanks for checking us out! We’re a family run business located in the beautiful small town of Decorah, IA, pop. 8,000. Surrounded by bluffs and farmland, we’re in a hotspot of organic food production and simple living.

Sogo Snacks’ vision is to be a successful, sustainable company where the happiness of our customers, partners and communities we work with drive us rather than a profit percentage or desired image. We seek to create and promote fantastic tasting, convenient, healthier meat protein snacks. We strive to be a humble and courageous company that follows the Golden Rule in all aspects of operations and use our support and success to benefit society, both at home and abroad. We want to encourage you to Snack Well, Do Good.

The unique name “Sogo” comes from my earlier years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, West Africa. Sogo means “meat” in the local Bambara language, a language I learned to use in my daily work. The tree in our logo is the silhouette of a baobab tree. Not only will you find this exotic tree all over Mali and West Africa, but the leaves are used in a sauce for the primary meal called To.

Sogo Snacks was only born in August 2016, however, the foundation for this company has been built over the experiences and careers I’ve had over the past 15 years. My desire to one day operate a small business that I could work in with my three daughters, Lulu (8), Poppy (7), and Solveig (10 months) and to create an organization that truly represented my values, finally gave me the strength to make that leap of faith. Being let go from a large corporation after they acquired the snack brand I helped build from the ground up was also a large contributing factor 🙂

If you decide to purchase any of our products, you’ll quickly find out this is primarily a one-man show. From managing production, inventory, fulfillment, customer service, and marketing, I do it all. To be fair, I receive a lot of support from my family. My beautiful wife, Liza, has been instrumental in providing stability for the family, and is the creative eye behind our logo and website. Lulu and Poppy occasionally come to the warehouse with me after school and act as unofficial quality control by eating lots of beef sticks. They also love placing shipping labels on envelopes. My brother Paul helps me with Chicago sales and strategy.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me, our company and what we are trying to accomplish. If you ever have questions, comments or ideas, please email me at dan@sogosnacks.com or give me a call on my cell at 563-419-5571. Also, don’t forget to check us out on Facebook or Twitter!
