This is the story of what happens when a geek gets a hold of some spice.
I’m a tinkerer by nature. More interested in the how than the what. Clay used to be my medium. Now it’s beef jerky.
It started when my kids bought a smoker for Christmas a few years back. I did the usuals at firstribs, brisket, wings, pork butt. (One can only eat so much pork butt before one gets bored.) I soon moved on to jerky; never was a fan of the fake smoke, waxy finish of store-bought jerky and figured I could do it better. But I soon found that pre-made spices weren’t authentic and the recipes were boring.
So I did what any true geek would do. I made my own recipes.
Before long, I was developing my own flavors based on different cultural foods. I’d take cuisines I love, like Asian, African, Indian, Mexican, and Middle Eastern, and then develop unique, non-traditional flavor profiles for my jerky based on the foods ingredients.
And thus, Smoke Shack Jerky was born. Or, rather, smoked.All natural. Handcrafted. Small batch. And deliciously real.
I recommend you enjoy Smoke Shack Jerky with a beer. Or by a fire. Deep in the forest on an unmarked trail is good, too. Or, in true geek fashion, figure out your own way to enjoy it.
